poor love

Poor Love explores female navigation through the visual field of mental health treatment with its subsequent health care purity aesthetic: objects such as medical tape, hospital gowns, medical forms, interview rooms, etc.  Medical sterility is contrasted with the daily abject visuality inherent in the poverty experienced by many women with mental illness.  The abject is represented in the performance through an exploration of low-income objects and health related objects, and the extra accoutrements of “self-care” and “self-medication”,  both of which function as visual and linguistic debris spectral to the” professional treatment environment.
