fintan
A performance based on the earlier video work Fintan (2004).
The work took place within the group exhibition Grotesques.
"As a concept, the grotesque threatens with its excess, resisting the norms that have been constructed over centuries, allying it with the abject instead of the classical. The term grotesque is etymologically affiliated with the "grotto-esque", or cavelike - specifically, a historical moment during the Italian Renaissance when an excavation of Nero's Domus Aurea uncovered a realm of "unimaginable" forms1...(Mary Russo)....Grotesques must be thought of as a site of experimentation where risk is a seductive ally that pries open the aperture for possibility." excerpted from the exhibition curatorial essay Grotesques: Enactments of Sublime Transgression by Lissette Olivares
