hitting the wall
Hitting the Wall was an endurance-based performance where I repetitively threw myself against the wall. At certain intervals, I interacted with pedestrians by asking them for cigarettes, offering them chocolate while lying underneath the gym mats, and attaching magazine cutouts so that the images dangled from an opening umbrella. This work expressed concerns about society’s expectation of able bodies, images of women in popular media, and social disruption of everyday life in downtown Regina. The work contained an element of the unexpected and a quality of humour.
